The ALPIN, also called SAVOYARD or MONTAGNARD, with its perfect proportions, its versatility and its sturdiness has been so enchanting that today it is known across France and Europe, far beyond the borders of its area of origin.
Its origins can be traced back to the middle of the 19
th century in Savoy, where it was developed as the knife of the Alpine farmers which was supposed to do them good and honest service during their activities in the forest, on the mountain farms and of course during the “casse-croûte”, their typical meals.

The original materials for its handle are bovine bones and horn, taken from the cattle that produce the milk of the mountain farms needed for the most savory mountain cheeses, as well as the wood from those chestnut trees that have been maintained and cared for over the centuries and that provide an incomparably safe and secure grip. Particularly scarce and valuable is “bélier”, the horn of the ram or ibex, with its distinctive surface structure and splendid colors. As an adornment, some knives carry on their handle, inlaid with little metal pegs, the “flocon”, the snowflake, the symbol of the Alpine region.

We sell two leather belt sheaths for this knife.  Natural colour or black.
